Just hit 46 last night and put a second point into my threat reduction talent, Fanaticism (How does that make one less threatening again? anyone?).
This talent is awesome. not just because it adds crit and gives me just a small boost in dps (I hear when I fill out Sheath of Light, it will increase much more, so that’s something yummy to look forward to) it also helps with those encounters where I am doing 200 dps (lately, I've been doing 200-240 dps) and where the tank is doing about 80. This becomes really annoying when after the first 5 seconds of a fight, I run in to only judge and consecrate and I pull aggro. IMMEDIATELY. and its on the mob the tank is currently attacking. I usually have the tank on /focus and his target frame is placed where I can easily see and click on, so I know for sure who to target.
now im a little glad for the threat reduction, since im melee, and melee's don’t have the built-in threat reduction from standing at 30 yards away. there are some tanks with awesome threat generation at my level, and I usually don’t question what stance they're in. well its only warriors for now. but for paladins, I just check if they have Righteous Fury on. and for Druids, I just see that they're in Bear form. now I was having problems the other night with bears doing 80 dps. yes, at my level, doing crap damage. and doing crap damage means they're generating crap threat. modifiers can only do so much but when I have to stand there and wait for several swipes before I can run in and use my hammer, then it’s a problem. I know mangle comes a bit later, but what about maul? what about feral charge? what about feral faerie fire? those things add up in threat. perhaps it’s just that one particular druid who "suck" but still does ok to survive the instance. actually our first healer dropped due to the tank losing aggro all the time. he wasn’t just losing aggro to me, but also to the rogue and the mage. mage was doing his AoE most of the time. the second healer was a bit more patient and we got through the rest of the instance with no problems. we were in zul farrak and the first healer dropped group before we even got to the first troll boss (the one by the cave).
but perhaps this druid was really a cat druid, who's leveling through the game and just do decided that he can kinda tank an instance since he does have bearform. honestly tho, my gear for my feral tank at 80 is gemmed with all AGI gems. I prioritize avoidance over stam. so you will see maybe two stamina gems on me, but the rest are either all agi, or and agi hybrid in order to get the socket bonus or meta activation. I've healed some stam stackers before, and it was a horrible experience.
in this instance tho, I did not care to check the druid's gear or talent spec because, for some reason at 1am in the morning, I was tired beyond belief, and didn’t want to even think through any of the fights. but I did check if the tank was in bear form, which he was, and I did check if I had righteous fury on me, which I didn’t. so after "tanking" half of the pulls and, on the last boss encounter, "tanked" one of the two bosses, I dropped group after I got a nice pair of something. I forgot what exactly. heck, I think they were boots. no maybe that was the random satchel of useful crap bag reward. I don’t know. I rolled need on something there. beats me. I was 90% asleep by then.
anyway. just wanted to blab about how im glad I have threat reduction now so that I can counter some of the "stupid" I experience in dungeons. maybe this isnt the correct solution (to counter stupid by tolerating stupid). but what can you do? besides, its just level 40something. they'll learn by the time they hit level 80 that maybe they should use more than one button to tank. one good thing about the tank tho, he did pick up targets he would lose aggro on. so at least he's got situation-awareness down.
